The Lay of the Land
Like the hiking and ski trails on Big Sky’s Lone Mountain, Big Sky is easy to navigate, with color-coded wayfinding signs that point visitors in the right direction, and town maps that are available in businesses throughout the area. As you drive into Big Sky on Highway 191, these signs welcome you on the north and south side. Looking for a hotel, restaurant, guest ranch, or another business in the Gallatin Canyon? Follow the blue squares.
Heading west, towards Lone Mountain on Highway 64, you will enter Big Sky’s Meadow Village, marked by the green circles. This area is comprised of the Meadow Village Center, the Town Center, and Westfork commercial areas, also with a number of accommodations, restaurants, and shops. This is where many of the Big Sky locals work, live, and play, with the Big Sky Community Park and an outdoor concert spot as highlights.
Drive another seven miles up Highway 64, and you will enter Big Sky’s Mountain Village, home to Big Sky Resort, Moonlight Basin, and a number of other businesses, marked by the black diamonds.
With airport shuttles, transportation to Yellowstone, and a year-round bus system, there are plenty of ways to get around the Big Sky area and beyond, but for the most flexibility during your trip, rental cars are recommended. Rental cars are available from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport or through other drop-off services around the Bozeman area. Rental car companies include:
